Last month, several Management Engineering students from Waterloo took part in the IISE Regional Student Conference, hosted by Laval University in Quebec City. The conference featured insightful speaker sessions, interactive networking events, and a variety of competitions, including technical papers, simulations, case studies, and more. Unexpected challenges added an extra layer of excitement, keeping participants engaged throughout. This experience provided students with valuable opportunities to develop their skills, expand their professional networks, and grow both academically and personally.
Waterloo’s Management Engineering students made a strong impact at the IISE conference, securing 3rd place overall out of nine competing universities!
Aniq Premji (4th year) led the way in the Technical Paper Competition, taking 1st place with co-authors Larissa Troper, Matthew Chan, Sunischit Thapa, and Adel Pazoki. Their research showcased innovative problem-solving and deep technical expertise.

Meanwhile, the Capsize team—Kirti Bansal, Dhruv Sharma, Ana Hogiu, Achchala Deepan, and Gustavo Ayub Ungaretti—came 1st place in IISE’s first Capsize competition, demonstrating their ability to think strategically under pressure.

The Simulation Team of Carter Ibach, Thomas Kleinknecht, and Agishan Thaya secured a 3rd place finish, applying their analytical skills to tackle complex modeling challenges.

A special shoutout to the incredible organizing team— Shoheb Islam (President), Alvaro Pranenda (President), Keneisha Baid (Vice President), Joey Oh (Director of Marketing), Danny Liang (Director of Operations), and Aleesha Katary (Sponsorships Lead)—for making this experience possible!

As part of the IISE conference experience, Shoheb Islam, Tony Qiu, and Keneisha Baid created a high-energy film that was showcased during the event. Packed with high energy, humor, and excitement, the film captured the lively spirit of Waterloo’s Management Engineering students and hyped up attendees for an unforgettable weekend.
Congratulations to all the Waterloo delegates and competitors for their hard work and impressive achievements! We’re already looking forward to the next IISE Winter Conference in 2026—see you there!
