In January 2024, a group of Management Engineering students from Waterloo trekked to Montreal for the IISE Regional Student Conference! Hosted by Polytechnique Montréal’s IISE chapter, the conference buzzed with activity. From insightful speaker sessions to lively social events, it offered a well-rounded experience. Students put their skills to the test in competitions like technical papers, simulations, and case studies. Polytechnique Montréal even threw in some surprise challenges, keeping the energy high and fostering connections. This conference provided valuable support for students’ professional, academic, and social development – a true win-win!

Waterloo’s Management Engineering students dominated at the IISE conference! Claudia De Fazio (4th year) won the technical paper competition with her research on optimizing electric aircraft and high-speed rail networks. 

Meanwhile, a team of students (Omar Atwa, Achchala Deepan, Omkaar Kamath, and Ewan Simms) took first place in the case study competition, showcasing their consulting skills. 

Beyond academics, a Management Engineering team (Dhruv Sharma, Adriel De Vera, Meenakshi Andoorveedu, Joanna Yang, Tejesh Arujuna, Thomas Enns, and Alvaro Pranenda) snagged third place in the Kin-Ball competition, proving their teamwork chops!
